The Power of Homemade Soup

Filed under: My World, Natural Healing — Paula @ 7:26 pm

Never underestimate the power of homemade soup when battling colds and flu. There’s definitely something restorative about dipping into a steaming hot bowl of soup made with your own fresh ingredients. I’m a vegetarian, so mine are meatless, but I really believe even a meat-lover will enjoy this hearty soup.

CANADIAN SPLIT PEA SOUP (meatless variation)
1 lb. split green peas (I use organic from Health Food Store)
1 med. onion, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
1 carrot, sliced thin
4 cloves garlic, chopped
2 Tbsp. chopped fresh parsley
2 Tbsp. olive oil
1/2-1 Tbsp. sea salt (to taste)
1/4 tsp. black pepper
2 med. bay leaves

Wash peas & rinse well. Cover with water. Add remaining ingredients. Bring to slow boil, cover & simmer 4-6 hours, stirring often, adding water as needed to desired consistency.

ENJOY!

I’m putting in a plug here for one of my favorite websites, Herbal Healer Academy. If you’re interested in staying healthy naturally during this cold & flu season, check out these specials: http://www.herbalhealer.com/postcards.html . I’m battling some sort of respiratory ailment right now, and I’ve attacked it with Oscillococcinum, colloidal silver & a wonderful Native American flu remedy of essential oils that my herbalist mixes herself. These natural remedies seem to be working well. –Paula

Herbal Healing

Filed under: My World, Natural Healing — admin @ 3:26 pm

I became interested in herbal healing about 20 years ago when I visited an iridologist/master herbalist for some nagging health problems.I wanted to be healthy, but I was tired of the endless rounds of doctor visits and prescriptions. I wanted to be in charge of my own health. When a friend suggested the iridologist, I had no idea what I was getting involved in, didn’t even know what an iridologist was, but I knew I wanted an alternative to medical doctors. My first visit was an eye opener. The iridologist “read” the iris of my eyes and started me on a program of cleansing my body through diet and herbs. Determined to give this protocol a fair chance of succeeding, I followed her instructions faithfully. Within two weeks, I saw very positive results, and I was hooked. Over the years, this woman has become my confidante and good friend. She is extremely knowledgeable and is continually studying medical science as well as alternative methods of healing. Her suggestions have helped me and my family time and time again. When I have a problem, she is the one I talk to first. Sometimes she suggests seeing a doctor or other practitioner, and I take this advice seriously. Here are two websites that give basic information on both iridology and herbal healing: http://www.iridologynow.com/ and http://www.herbalhealer.com . Check them out and let me know what you think.
